Pixie Park at the Marin Art & Garden Center

Originally designed in 1958 by famed California modernist landscape architect Robert Royston, Pixie Park Co-Operative Playground underwent a major renovation to bring it's experience of play into the 21st century. HSLA designed a new sand play area, a new accessible ramp circulation system, and a new toddler-friendly play zone for this non-profit parent-run playground in the heart of Marin County. A series of fun new retaining walls stabilize the hillside and provide more room for seating. The main plaza and historic arbors and fencing were restored, while the design adds new natural logs and boulders as play features. With a focus fluid design using durable, readily available materials, the style echos the playground's California Moderist beginnings.
